Speaking at a recent investor’s meeting, Iwata had this to say on the upcoming releases in the Zelda series:
Combined with Reggie Fils-Aime’s recent comments about the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D – ie. it won’t be seeing a release before E3 2011 – it certainly seems like a long time to wait for Link’s Wii homecoming.
But then again, perhaps this is good news. Since we heard that the game was “over half complete,” there has always been a slight fear that Nintendo would attempt to push it out, unfinished, in order to meet the self-imposed Spring deadline. By allowing the team more development time, it’s safe to say that Skyward Sword will have ironed out all the kinks, and will be a better game for it.
However, the question soon becomes, “When will the game finally release?” Personally, I believe it will launch in November 2011, just before Thanksgiving. It may sound like a long time away, but it really isn’t. If Ocarina of Time 3D launches (as I believe it will) in July, that gives gamers four months to complete the title and prepare excitedly for Skyward Sword.
Contrary to popular belief, you can have too much of a good thing, and Nintendo don’t want people burning out on one of their most successful franchises.
