Currently, Baptiste’s Immortality Field is one of the most controversial abilities in the entirety of Overwatch. The skill allows the Haitian combat medic to protect all allies within a certain range from dying, with enemy fire no longer dealing damage once friendly health bars are low. While the Field can be destroyed easily, many find it to be overpowered, as it completely negates ultimate abilities. Recent experimental changes in Overwatch have not helped matters, with fans frustrated that not enough is being done.

However, even the best Baptiste players would be hard-pressed to reach a statistic that sees the hero blocking one trillion damage in a single match. A player named AUTOTUNE somehow managed to do this in a game of Ilios, however, with Reddit user greenzone15 getting a screenshot of his hero card at the end of the game. While it is clearly a bug of some kind, as reaching such a number legitimately would be impossible, the Overwatch community seems divided on whether this is just a buggy hero card or caused by an in-game act of some kind.

Greenzone15 does highlight that this happened in one of Overwatch’s custom games, making Reddit user tehkitryan’s theory seem plausible. Tehkitryan feels the feat could have been accomplished if there was no cooldown on Immortality Field and instant ultimate abilities. Bastion would have also needed to be in play, firing at enemies for the entirety of the eight-minute affair. However, Greenzone15 pokes a hole in this theory by saying that the group was playing Mystery Heroes, a mode that gives them no say in who they control. This means that the Baptiste would have needed to do this without dying or gotten super lucky on respawns.

With such specific requirements needing to be met, though, it seems far more likely that this is a bug on Overwatch’s end of match screen. As pointed out by LususNaturae, the Sigma’s damage goes against the Bastion theory. Pointing out that the number looks like an “underflow,” the Redditor believes that the system tried to go below 0 for some reason, causing the card to glitch out. As such, if gamers see any absurd stats after their Overwatch matches, it can likely be chalked up to a weird bug like this one.

As of now, it remains to be seen when or if Blizzard will address this issue. Not only is it different from other hero-related bugs in Overwatch, as it has no real impact on gameplay, but it seems like it is incredibly rare as well.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
